Cherry Bomb T-shirt

Cherry Bomb T-shirt

Metaphorical linguistics get in a head-on collision with pixel art as pseudo-fractal art rides shotgun! Yeah yeah, that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue I know, but it does make for a bomb-blast of cherry goodness across your chest. So what are you waiting for? It goes on sale on July 1st at midnight US CST. (GMT -6) There no artist to credit on this one-it was done in-house, so I hope you like it.

Due to the nature of this shirt’s design, I’m attaching two more photos so you can get the effect from different distances…

Of course, this means it’s your last chance to get a print of “Creative on Amber” currently on our home page before it goes into the archive forever on July 1st. As always, if you like this design, let us know in the comments. If you hate it, tell us why. The more feedback we get, the better.

This day in 200nipples history 100% awesome covered in awesome-sauce with a warm awesome center…

At around 6am this morning our hosting company, Dreamhost, borked our site. It was down for the following 9 hours until just a few minutes ago. This is such perfect timing, let me count the ways…

  1. A new shirt notice went out today, because we have a new t-shirt going on sale tonight at midnight. This service has over 1700+ subscribers and our traffic on new shirt notice days is always order of magnitude higher than normal. (About 7k hits vs. 200-500) So all those folks got to see a big fat blank page for the last 9 hours.
  2. The new shirt notice that went out was the first one we’ve had in over a month, almost 7 weeks, actually, because we just changed our release schedule to the 1st of every month instead of every 4 weeks.
  3. It’s also the first new shirt notice we’ve had go out since we got covered in the local news paper, which gave us a huge traffic spike and had 100+ new subscribers to the new shirt notice service..

Brilliant. Smashing, really.

Yes, I’m passing the buck to my hosting company by publicly bitching. I could pony up more cash and buy better hosting, but honestly Dreamhost is down rarely. Like maybe once every 6 months and it usually never lasts more then a few minutes. It’s just that their timing was extraordinarily crappy this go-round.

Thanks for your patience. We’re all clear now. So cheers and buy the new design because it’s rad. Not as rad as this, but rad none the less.

Here’s the June shirt!
Democrazy - For Dreaming T-shirt

Democrazy - For Dreaming T-shirt

o0OdemocrazyO0o is a killer New Zealand designer with a penchant for fantastic doodles with lots of great detail. He’s done this design especially for 200nipples and I’m pretty excited about it. I always try to pick art that I’d want to wear and this one is definitely in that category. In his own words:

o0OdemocrazyO0o is a Graphic Artist with a day job in Graphic Design. Scribbling artwork onto T-Shirts, Skateboards and Canvas have become his creative therapy outlet…

His family resides in Aotearoa (new Zealand) and is just surviving this years winter (not to mention snowtrolls)… brrr

He has a love for creating in lots of mediums with a love of music, animation, computer art and smell creation. He has a lovely family that don’t hit him much….

A big shout out to the 200 Nipple Clan for letting me run amok…

“Creative on Amber” has tons of neat little details, so I’m attaching a detail shot below. This shirt will go on sale at 12:00am on June 1st, 2009 on the home page. This is also the start of our new scheduling. Instead of every 4 weeks, we’re now featuring a new shirt on the 1st of every month. (If that’s too hard to remember, just sign up for our new shirt notice service.)

You can catch up with o0OdemocrazyO0o and see more of his illustrations at his Deviant Art profile page. And I think it’s rather fitting that he currently has this written in the questionnaire section of his Deviant Art profile:

Skin of choice: I’ve always like the skin on my nipples…

The fates obviously meant for him to have artwork featured with us at some point. Here’s that detail shot I promised you:

Kansas City Star Building

Kansas City Star Building

Our nipples got some coverage in the Kansas City Star today! We’re the first ones listed in a story about local Kansas City T-Shirt shops. That’s the Kansas City Star Production facility up there. If you’ve ever seen it, you’ll know it is a fantastic building. You can see all the presses and ton-rolls of paper in action as they print the Star every night. It’s all glass and it’s right on I-670 in downtown KC, but I digress…

200 NIPPLES

•Limited edition: www.200nipples.com features just one design a month and sells no more than 100 shirts of that design. And if you get in early, you can get a great deal. Shirt No. 1 sells for $1. Shirt No. 2, $2. But Shirt No. 100: $100 (yikes). Co-owner Wade Meredith views the site as a marketing experiment — it rewards “first adopters.” 200 Nipples typically sells 30-40 of each design, sometimes even the $100 T. And there’s no extra inventory because the shirts aren’t made until they’ve been purchased.

•It takes three: Meredith’s partners are his sister Shandra Chapman and friend Scott Connerly.

•About that name: 100 shirts = 200 nipples, right? But some killjoy mentioned that about 6 percent of people have some sort of third nipple. So Meredith also registered the domain name 206nipples.com.

•Fan club: Five or so people have bought every shirt sold by 200 Nipples — 15 designs so far.

•Available: At www.200nipples.com and soon at Vahalla Studios, 2111 Washington St. in the Crossroads.

Warmer weather brings out hot T-shirt designs, all made in KC – KC Star

Bonus: they mentioned the Vahalla Studios retail shop that will be opening soon on the southwest side of the Crossroads district. (You may soon be able to score some 200nipples gear in a brick-and-mortar-store!)

Hey gang, those of you who read the blog and post comments regularly probably already know, but we’re going to a new shirt release shcedule. We were doing a new shirt release every four weeks there for a while, but as of June 1st we’ll be releasing a new shirt on the first of every month. The four weeks thing was goofy and presented a moving target date-wise, so this sits with my mild OCD of wanting everything nice and neat OCD much better.

The new t-shirt notice system will still work the same way. Those who’ve signed up will receive an email with a preview of the new shirt design 24 hours before it goes on sale. Hit that link at the beginning of this paragraph to sign up.

For some reason the database kicked over last night like we were going to have a new shirt when we weren’t, which is why no one received new shirt notices yesterday and there’s no shirt for sale on the home page right now. I’m not sure why it happened, but we’ll get it fixed, soon.

Meanwhile, you can rest assured that you’ll get a new shirt notice if we are, in fact, going to have a new shirt for sale.

BAKE Jump T-Shirt

BAKE Jump T-Shirt

Nick Steimling is back with another killer shirt. It’s called “BAKE Jump.” It goes on sale tonight at midnight and it looks good enough to eat.

Canary Yellow by Alice

Our next design for sale is Canary Yellow by Alice

I was born in Kent and grew up around Sevenoaks. After studying Graphic Design at school, I decided to move on to sculpture for University. I graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a 1st class BA in Model Design in 2005. Not having much else to do, I stayed on for a further 2 years to complete an MA in the same subject (The University still won’t give me my certificate because they say I owe them money, so I don’t know what I got for that.) I worked as a sculptor for a product-design consultancy in Windsor for most of 2006, but was forced out of sculpting by all the adverse reactions I was having to the poisonous chemicals used in action-figures. Thus, I returned to my first love; drawing. I’ve taken the long way around, but…well, actually I can’t say it’s been ‘fun’. It has been informative, and I’ve met some unforgettable people along the way…and a few other ‘people I’d like to forget’. I currently work full-time for a design consultancy in London, where I provide concept art (London 2012 Olympic Planning Commitee), storyboards (Muller, Wrigley’s) and Logo designs (Pepsi Max).

You can learn more about Alice and see more of her work at her website. I’m pretty excited about this tee. To me, it’s kind of an unsettling combination of something dark with something that’s delicate; pretty and deranged. It goes on sale tonight at midnight.

If you like this design, let us know in the comments. If you hate it, tell us why. The more feedback we get, the better.

UPDATE: As requested, I’m posting a deatil shot of this design. (There will also be a detail shot on the hoe page as usual when it goes on sale.) Click the pic for a larger version.

Canary Yellow by Alice - Detail

Canary Yellow by Alice - Detail

Good morning all,

This is going out in place of the normal new shirt notice you’d get every two weeks. We’re switching back to a month-long sales cycle – 12 shirts per year. We’ve been on a two-week cycle and it was working out alright, but I think we can deliver better design quality consistency and do better customer service this way. (Which, by the way, are the two things this project has always been about: customer experience and kick ass design.)

You don’t have to do anything, but you will be getting less new shirt notices. We’ll keep delivering quality limited edition handmade goods with one-on-one customer service.

Thanks for everyone’s support. We’ll be back with a new design in a few weeks.

Sincerely,

Wade Meredith

Ben Chlapek - Worthless

Ben Chlapek was the first designer we featured here at 200Nipples. I personally love his design asthetic and he’s done a lot of killer poster work in his short design career so far. He currently has a write up in Present Magazine, a Kansas City specific rag “presenting the best of Kansas City.” You can find the article here. You can catch up with ben at NeverSleeping.com.
