The “Delayed Travels” t-shirt by Ben Chlapek will be for sale on the home page starting at Midnight (12:00am US CST) September 15th.
“Hey, what’s your shirt mean?”
“It means that I’m conditionally free. How do you think that makes my chainsaw feel?”
“Wow, that’s cool, I’m really jealous.”
“Yeah, you look really jealous.”

Would someone be kind enough to please explain this? Thanks.
Perhaps it’s stuff that gets caught in the airport x-ray machine that can’t be taken on a plane? A person is conditionally free-like free to have whatever they want except in, like, a million situations? I’m thinking that in the case of freedom, the exception doesn’t prove the rule…
Thank you, that makes sense.
I’m told that lighters and matches were excepted from the “implements” designation from the very beginning because of the tobacco lobby. Still true?
Well, back to this design:
I’m not too hot on this design for two reasons:
1) It seems derivative of the very successful “Younger than John McCain” design, which I loved. So it doesn’t get a lot of points for originality.
2) The graphics are derived from photographic sources which don’t help with clarity or visual interest. I felt that the graphics would be better if they reflected those highly generic but great line art graphics that you find in the airline safety brochures in the flap in front of your seat. Alternatively, it could also have been better if the graphics were treated like they were objects being x-rayed in a bag, all jumbled together and looking partially transparent. Have you ever seen a bag being x-rayed? The imagery generated is fascinating looking!
Okay, to explain (defend) this, it is a bunch of stuff that you cannot take on airplanes. I ran across a list of these items and thought it was pretty strange seeing the wide variety that won’t make it on board. also, if you’ve ever had one of these things by accident then you know how friendly security can be : )
@Glu: the images are halftones, so while they may seem a little unclear now upclose they are actually very easy to see. also, if they were jumbled together it would be pretty tough (especially with screen printing) to distinguish them at all. Also, had this worked up before the McCain one, but that’s just bad on my part I suppose, as I didn’t think they were that similar anyway.
Nice! I’m digging the pink airplane accent. The last shirt was so dark.
I love it!!! A chainsaw not allowed on a plane!!!
